KAIZEN
Tactical Martial Arts
& Self-Defense

Kaizen offers a variety of programs suitable and appropriate for all skill levels and ages.

Don’t let the phrase “Tactical Martial Arts” intimidate you! Your kids won’t be fighting in the Octagon, and adults don’t need to be covered in muscle and tattoos to train here! Tactical Martial Arts is simply the best way to describe the variety of skills and precise methods of training, rather than focusing on a particular style.

Training consists of safe and dynamic conditioning exercises, utilizing Strikes, Kicks, Defenses, Grappling, CQC, and Self-Defense. With a studio full of bags, mitts, kick-shields, mats, and close supervision… training is practical, effective, and safe. There are no tournaments or trophies to win, no expensive “Black Belt Clubs” to join, and the ranking system I utilize for youth classes is simply about goal setting.

The following video samples of classes were filmed at my original studio location years ago, however they set a solid example of what training is like here at Kaizen Tactical Martial Arts.

“Wild Cats” Ages 5-9

A “Focused-But-Fun” Atmosphere for Kids

“Wild Cats” is a custom program for my youngest of students. The foundation of Wild Cats is character development, discipline, respect, and focus. It’s all disguised inside an exciting “Animal Curriculum”, with tons of running, jumping, yelling, rolling, punching and kicking. Kids have a ton of energy, and Wild Cats classes channel that energy into positive results where kids both learn and have fun.

“SOCIAL SKILLS” are incorporated into each and every class, and build on the principals of character. This helps students succeed in martial arts and everyday life. My goal is for them to overcome fear, and face any challenge they may encounter in class, sports, school, home, and throughout their entire lives.

“Youth” Ages 10-14

Setting Goals, Having Fun, Developing Solid Skills

Structured to be fun and effective, students gain a true ability to defend themselves, while building on character, respect, focus, and confidence. Students overcome fears and find strength within, and develop positive “Social Skills”.

Classes are dynamic and intense, however, just like in my Wild Cats program, I maintain a “Focused-But-Fun” atmosphere. Students feel comfortable in class, and are not intimidated to learn. They can have fun, while still maintaining solid discipline and learning. Students “Want” to come to class. Belt Testing is not a race or competition, only a method of setting goals and measuring skill advancement.

“Adults” Ages 15 & Up

Practical, Effective, Safe… Tactical CQC Training

I’ve been training since I was 12… Let’s just say, I’m not a kid anymore, and neither are the adults I train. How I perform my skills, move, fight, strike, and kick are worlds away from what I used to do. Adults have extremely different needs, goals, and physical capabilities (or even limitations) in martial arts training than kids. So I provide an informal training environment for adults. No screaming “Sir, Yes Sir”, no belt ranking system, no testing, no triple aerial spinning wheel kicks, and no memorizing forms.

Similar to Youth classes, Adult training is safe, though highly intense based on practical and effective skills. The main difference is class structure and physical applications. Adults training with me range from simple enthusiasts, those seeking self-defense or fitness, up through professional fighters and law enforcement.

“Teens” Ages 13 -17

Teenagers have the opportunity to choose which program best fits their interests and comfort levels. Some teens prefer the “Youth” Classes, while others may be more properly challenged and motivated in the “Kickboxing” or “Adult” Classes.

Oftentimes, Teens train in Martial Arts as a method of enhancing their athletic sports performance. They’ll develop speed, power, endurance, strength, and flexibility regardless of which program they attend.

“Kickboxing” 16 & Up

Kickboxing is the perfect program for those seeking a high intensity workout, while still developing fighting technique, with minimal (or even zero) contact.

While the primary focus of kickboxing is fitness, those participating benefit from partner drills, mitt drills, bag workouts, and various forms of exercises. Along the way, they develop the ability to not only perform these techniques as part of their workout, they also learn to apply them as a method of self-defense.

Nathan Grey

Solo Training
This older video is a compilation of how and where I enjoy training alone. This is simply of method of developing the “feel” or “flow” of techniques, rather than memorizing combinations and forms. I refuse to become a trainer, who no longer trains himself.

Beauty of Motion

Training in Nature
Years ago, before I had access to HD cameras, I filmed these sequences with a high speed (very low res) camera. The purpose was simply to enjoy the beauty of motion. I often enjoy hosting classes outdoors in areas like this.

Training Adults

Various Skills and Drills
This is another very old video shot with old cameras, however the idea is to show some various training methods and skills I teach at Kaizen. In addition to open hand and CQC, I also train with sticks and knives.

KAIZEN
“Quality” Over “Quantity”

I refuse to ever “sell out” or “water down” the quality of my training, in exchange for massive amounts of students. This is not a belt factory… it’s a martial arts studio.

Sadly, I see this happen all too often. It even happened to the first studio I was a student at, and I left because I refused to sacrifice the quality of my training for pretty trophies, over-crowded classes, and deep pockets. While we all need to earn a living, there are better ways to successfully run a business while not compromsing integrity and self-respect.

Simply stated, my studio exists only because I have students and families who allow it to thrive. Without them, I have nothing. So in exchange, I provide the best training I can possibly offer, and guarantee limited class sizes and affordable rates. My rates NEVER increase, and I offer many discount incentives for my memberships. I work for my students. Essentially, they are my boss. If I fail to do my job, my reputation suffers and eventually I’d have to close my doors.

My work in Film, Video Productions, and Photography allow me to offer this guarantee to my students and their families. Since my income isn’t entirely reliant on Kaizen, and I’m able to generate a living for myself with my other business “I Am Cinema”. While some may argue “How can I truly be committed to teaching martial arts, if I’m also out there shooting videos and photos”… I simply say, “Look at the quality of my students, and their level of satisfaction.” I’m passionate about teaching, I’ve done it nearly my entire life. You’ll see this passion and enthusiasm every time you step foot into Kaizen, and when you see me interact with my students. My commitment is to them and their families.
